Social media – particularly social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn – have exploded in popularity over recent years. Facebook alone has nearly 2.9 billion monthly active users, and nearly 1.9 billion of them log on to Facebook in any given day. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are all in the top 10 most visited sites in the United States. The popularity of such social media is not limited to college students or to the newest generation of workers. Seventy-seven percent (77%) of 30-49-year-olds in the United States use Facebook, while teenagers have shifted towards other social media, including Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat. Those statistics mean that many your employees are active on social networking sites whether you are aware of their activity or not.
