About the Authors and Editors

The first edition of what once was the South Carolina Employers Reference Manual was written in 1984 by G. Daniel Ellzey and Thomas R. Haggard. In 1996, the name of the publication was changed to the Employment and Labor Law Resource Guide – A Business Guide to South Carolina and Federal Laws. This manual was completely revised in 2018 under the coordination of J. Hagood Tighe and is now known as the South Carolina Employment Law Reference Guide.

J. Hagood Tighe (htighe@fisherphillips.com) is a partner in the Columbia office of Fisher Phillips. He is a certified specialist in employment and labor law by the South Carolina Supreme Court. He also is licensed in North Carolina. Tighe focuses his practice on representation of management in traditional labor matters (union matters), employment litigation and pro-active counseling and training designed to minimize the risk of employment problems. Additionally, Tighe represents companies across the country in defending class and collective action lawsuits. Tighe received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina.
