Veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces have had statutory re-employment rights since the end of World War II. In 1994, Congress substantially revised and expanded those rights in the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). Veterans now have a highly protected status under the law. Employers should pay close attention to employees who are serving in the Guard or Reserve. These employees have rights that no other employees possess.
