Safety and health — Georgia

Georgia does not have its own state program that ensures workplace safety and health. Rather, Georgia employers are covered by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act). The federal OSH Act was implemented with the goal of reducing workplace injuries, illnesses and deaths. The OSH Act grants the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), an agency of the federal government, the authority to create rules, standards and regulations governing workplace safety and health. 

Although Georgia does not have its own state program, employers are still subject to certain state regulations that affect workplace safety and health. For example, since June 1, 2010, all new and existing facilities with operations involving the manufacturing, processing and/or handling of combustible particulate solids, including manufacturing processes that create combustible dust, have been required to register by electronic means with the Georgia Insurance Commissioner and update it annually at the Georgia Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire’s website: 

If operating in other states, Georgia employers may be subject to those state’s workplace safety and health programs.
