Significant standards — OSHA

Many OSHA standards apply to virtually all employers; I.e. the regulated activity or condition is common to almost every work environment. Other standards are limited because the regulated activity or condition is not found in most employers’ workplaces. A particular OSHA standard could apply only to a small subset of the employees or work operations at an employer’s place of business, and have no relevance at all to the work of the majority. Basic standards for employers

Important basic standards affecting most, if not all, industrial workplaces address:

  • general housekeeping
  • walking and working surfaces
  • personal protective equipment
  • free exit outlets
  • fire extinguishers location and use
  • use of extension cords
  • blocked electrical panels
  • material handling
  • powered industrial truck training and use
  • lockout/logout
  • medical and first-aid
  • machine guarding
  • injury and illness recordkeeping
