The primary federal law regulating employee wages and hours of employment is the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The FLSA was originally enacted in 1938 and has been amended a number of times since. All other federal laws establishing wage and hour standards, such as the Davis Bacon Act, the Walsh-Healey Act and the Service Contract Act, apply only to employers who have contracts to perform tasks for the federal government.
