NY: Supporting Families in Accessing Federal Tax Benefits

Supporting Children and Families in Accessing Federal Tax Benefits in the Recent American Rescue Plan

The American Rescue Plan Act (“ARPA”) includes important changes to three tax credits that support families with infants and toddlers. ARPA’s expansions of the Child Tax Credit and the Child & Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDTC) have the potential to significantly reduce child poverty, and provide critical support to New York families when they need it most.

The challenge now is to ensure all New York families – including those not accustomed to filing taxes because they do not owe taxes – file the appropriate tax documents by the May 17 federal and state tax filing deadline, if possible, or later – even if they do not pay federal income tax.

Employers and direct service organizations can be important resources to families who qualify for the tax credit expansions in ARPA.

Join Raising NY coalition members, including President & CEO of The Business Council, Heather Briccetti, to learn more about the ARPA tax credit changes for families with infants and toddlers, and how your organization can spread the word to employees, community partners and members about these important supports.0
