Given the pronounced shortage of physicians in the physician workforce with the ever-expanding need for healthcare services, it is important to consider International Physicians, particularly in hard-to-fill placements.

The webinar will focus on the J-1 waiver process, its specific requirements and steps that healthcare institutions and physicians can take to increase their chance of success.

We’ll discuss how immigration can facilitate the recruitment and retention of International Physicians, starting with a discussion of the J-1 program and its two-year home residence requirement, as well as the various options available for International Physicians to continue practicing on a long-term basis in the U.S., including:

  • O-1 status;
  • the state Conrad J-1 waiver program;
  • derivative status from spouse;
  • various federal waiver options; and
  • certain special considerations pertaining to Canadian physicians.

Applications for HRCI HR (General) credits, Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-CPSM or SHRM-SCPSM and Minnesota and Iowa CLE credits have been submitted.
