On January 19, 2021, the Maryland General Assembly will convene for a legislative session that promises to be unlike any other in history. Legislative leaders have already announced their plans to execute their constitutional responsibilities for the full 90 days of session but doing so in a way that preserves public health will require a number of logistical and procedural adjustments. In addition, we know that the legislature will consider many policies and initiatives in response to the COVID-19 pandemic that will have a direct impact on Maryland’s job creators.

The Maryland Chamber of Commerce’s Meet the State event is the premier, early-session gathering of legislative and state government leaders. Being held virtually for the first time, the two-hour session will bring together policymakers and business representatives to discuss critically important public health and economic issues as we work to overcome the pandemic and remain on the road to recovery.

This year’s event will feature:

  • A panel discussion with representatives from the Governor’s office, Maryland Department of Commerce and Maryland Department of Labor on actions taken by the Hogan Administration to support businesses throughout the pandemic;
  • A conversation with leaders from both the House and Senate of the Maryland General Assembly on their logistical and procedural plans for session along with their top legislative priorities;
  • Breakout sessions with committee leadership including Senate Budget & Taxation/House Ways & Means, Senate Finance/House Economic Matters, and Senate Judicial Proceedings/House Judiciary.

Now more than ever, it is critically important that policymakers hear from Maryland’s job creators so that actions taken to address the challenges posed by the pandemic appropriately balance public health and safety with economic realities and consequences.

During a session that will provide limited opportunities for in-person interaction with your elected officials, you do not want to miss your chance to hear from and weigh in with them directly.
