This comprehensive human resources manual explains, in plain English, the duties of the employer during the entire employment process – everything from pre-hire through post-termination. It covers more than thirty primary topics and includes practical advice on what should be done, solid advice on how to do it and a complete explanation of why it is important.
Covers topics such as:
Social media
- What are an employer’s limitations in using social media
- Should an employer restrict text messaging during work time
- What conduct is protected under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA)
Wages and hours
- Which employees are exempt from receiving overtime pay
- What counts as compensable working time
- Pay records – what you need to keep and for how long
Recordkeeping and posting requirements
- How long you are required to keep I-9s
- Which notices must be posted in the workplace
- What types of records should be kept separate from an employee’s personnel file
Check out these topics if you are unfamiliar with employment laws or want to brush up on what’s important:
- Do you have a progressive discipline policy, and do your supervisors understand it and apply it consistently?
- Does your company have a plan for dealing with disasters?
- Do you check all job references before hiring?
- Do you test for drugs and alcohol in compliance with both Pennyslvania and Federal law?
This publication was compiled by the attorneys at Cozen O’Connor.
