For years, employers have dealt with various federal and/or state antidiscrimination laws.  Beginning in 1992, most employers began dealing with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which, among other things, protects disabled employees in the workplace.  One year later, in 1993, many employers learned of the impact the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) would have on their operations.  Employers quickly discovered that the ADA, FMLA, and applicable state laws may be involved when handling a multitude of employee situations.

The ADA and FMLA are complex.  Therefore, it is imperative that employers become familiar with the details, obligations, and requirements of these laws to assist in resolving employee situations.  This book discusses the requirements of these statutes, as well as state laws that relate to leaves of absence issues in the employer/employee relationship.
