Robert J. Mignin

Mr. Mignin is a partner with the law firm of Baker & McKenzie LLP in its Chicago office.  Mr. Mignin represents employers and management in all employment law matters in the United States, including discrimination and harassment claims and single plaintiff and class action employment and wage hour litigation in federal and state courts.  He also specializes in representing employers in all labor relations matters including general labor relations advice and counseling, legal proceedings involving union elections, collective bargaining, mediation and arbitration, and all related proceedings before the NLRB

Mr. Mignin also regularly represents and advises employers on the development and implementation of human resources policies and procedures, corporate compliance programs, codes of conduct, conducting internal investigations, protecting confidential business information, alternative methods of resolving employment disputes, mandatory arbitration policies and litigation avoidance strategies.  He also specializes in advising businesses on the labor and employment ramifications of reorganization and workforce restructuring, sales, mergers and acquisitions, as well as collective bargaining strategy, absence and leave management, diversity, harassment and bullying issues in the workplace. 

Mr. Mignin served as Chair of the Employment and Industrial Relations Law Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) in 2008 and 2009.  He is also a founding member and a Vice Chair of the IBA’s newly created Global Employment Institute (GEI).  Mr. Mignin is an elected fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers (affiliated with the ABA).  The College is a professional association honoring the leading lawyers nationwide in the practice of labor and employment law.  Mr. Mignin was named by Practical Law Company (London) in its 2009/10 “Guide to Labour and Employee Benefits” as one of the “leading” labor and employment lawyers.  Mr. Mignin was also recognized in the 2010 edition of “Who’s Who Legal:  The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers” (joint publication of the IBA and the ABA Section of International Law) as a leading management labor and employment attorney.  Mr. Mignin also was recently recognized as a leading lawyer in the “International Who’s Who of Management Labour and Employment Lawyers 2011.”

Mr. Mignin regularly lectures nationally and internationally on employment, labor  and HR issues confronting employers doing business in multiple jurisdictions throughout the world.  He is the author of numerous legal publications and articles and was one of the co-editors of the new 2011 publication by Kluwer Law International titled “International Labour and Employment Compliance Handbook.”  Mr. Mignin, along with other Baker & McKenzie attorneys, authored the chapter on employment and labor laws in the United States for this new Kluwer publication.  Mr. Mignin is a member of the Steering Committee for the Firm’s North American Compensation and Employment Law Practice Group.

Mr. Mignin graduated cum laude with a B.A. from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois.  He received his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law where he was a member of the Law Review.  While in law school, Mr. Mignin was also an undergraduate teaching assistant in the College of Business.
