Diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace — North Carolina

We are now approaching the third decade of the 21st Century and it is becoming more and more apparent that the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in the business world is accelerating. Successful diversity, equity and inclusion will improve and enhance work experiences which in turn will improve customer or client experiences and profitability.

Definitions of diversity, equity, inclusion and affirmative action

Affirmative action generally refers to legal mandates to make affirmative efforts to employ and promote women and minorities.

Diversity refers to the similarities and differences among individuals accounting for all aspects of their personality and individual identity. It covers the full spectrum of human differences, including but not limited to physical characteristics, life experiences, racial and ethnic, socioeconomic, geographic and academic/professional backgrounds.
