Equal employment opportunity policies — Oregon Templates

An employer is highly advised to include one or more general statement in its employee handbook regarding its commitment to equal employment opportunity (EEO). Although not required by law, such statements are further proof of an employer’s commitment to lawful employment practices and a statement to employees that the employer takes equal employment issues seriously.

All employers in Oregon are subject to certain EEO laws. In Oregon, employers with one or more employees must comply with the laws that prohibit discrimination because of an employee’s:

  • race (including physical characteristics that are historically associated with race, including - but not limited to - natural hair, hair texture, hair type and protective hairstyle)
  • religion
  • color
  • sex and gender identity
  • sexual orientation
  • national origin and ancestry
  • marital status
  • pregnancy
  • age
  • physical or mental disability
  • veteran or military status.
