Whistleblowers — Arizona

 

Federal whistleblower statutes protect employees against retaliatory personnel actions after reporting violations of federal laws or regulations. A list of the primary federal laws that protect employees is included in Compliance thresholds.

Federal contractors

Various federal laws, including the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013 (NDAA), provide whistleblower protections for civilian defense contractors. The NDAA prohibits retaliation against employees who provide information that the employee reasonably believes constitutes evidence of illegality or a violation of a law, rule or regulation relating to Federal contracts, gross mismanagement relating to a federal contract, or gross waste of federal funds, abuse of authority, or a substantial and specific danger to public health or safety. Other laws also protect employees who report contract-related violations to the government. 

These statutes cover employees of civilian defense and space contractors and subcontractors, as well as grant recipients, and allow employees to disclose information about an actual or potential contract or legal violation without retaliation by the employer. This protection extends to whistleblowing with regard to the competition for and negotiation of defense contracts.
